The Way Cross
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
For weeks now I have been seeing the words “The Way” on a cross in my mind that the Lord wanted me to make. I knew I was on the right track when I went into the shop to draw it on wood and two important things happened. One, the song “The Way” by the Housefires was playing on my radio and then two, a heaviness laid on me. A feeling of tiredness and nausea. Focused on the task at hand because I understood what God wanted me to make I drew the cross up and then went inside to rest and pray and a smile came across my heart. The enemy didn’t want me to make this cross. I MUST be doing something right and I’m not going to stop! The next morning I went into the shop to start cutting the cross out and the SAME song came on again! It was SO encouraging! The next two times that I went into the shop to work on “The Way” the song was on AGAIN! God is so good and so encouraging!
I wanted to draw attention to the hand gesture at the top of the cross. It is a gesture that I saw in an Antioch Orthodox Church a couple of months ago and it really grabbed my attention. ICXC is an abbreviation for the Greek words Jesus (IHCOYC) Christ (XPICTOC) which includes the first and last letter of each word. The hand that blesses reproduces, with gestures, the Name of Jesus, the “Name above every name.”
I cut each of my crosses using a scroll saw and used oak, walnut, cherry and palope. I feed and seal the woods with orange oil to bring out their natural colors. Not a fan of stains! It stands about 22″ tall.
May each of you be inspired by this and listen to that voice of truth that speaks to you about what God is calling you to do for His Kingdom.
Peace in Christ!,
I wanted to include the wonderful song “The Way” by the Housefires! https://youtu.be/uCfveSHHwXo
